Friends
The intrigue–and plague–of my social life is that the majority of it exists online. It’s been that way since I was 13-14, and before that, well, let’s just say my nickname in 5th grade was “the Nerd” because I ws perpetually reading. I have NOT been the image of popularity in my day. But I digress.
I’m used to having online friends, and meeting them when I can. Almost 2 years ago I met a friend of mine from Oregon and she, my fiance and I, spent the day hanging out in Indianapolis. Then, this summer when going to see Tokio Hotel in Chicago, I met up with other friends I knew from Tokio Hotel US’s forum. I’ve made deals with friends to meet them in LA, Chicago, wherever, for concerts and whatnot whenever I get the chance/money.
Trust me, I plan on making good on that as soon as I can.
The part that still bothers me though is that everyone is so far away. Don’t get me wrong, I adore every single one of my internet buddies. They’re some of the best friends I’ve got. Even if they live in Europe, or some state on the other side of the country, I don’t care. I love them nonetheless. In fact, the song “1000 Meere” by Tokio Hotel sums up how I feel about my friendships for the most part.
However, for the first time in a while, someone took an interest in me and actually wanted to hang out. This may sound cheesy, but it actually just about thrilled me to tears. When we’re talking about the fact that no one ever hardly took an interest in me outside of cyber space, it’s still a touchy spot for me. The emotional aspect of it can almost be compared to getting asked to the school danc e by the person you’ve had your eyes on but never had the guts to go up and say hi to them. Not to insinuate any more than friendly feelings, but it’s that shock and that amount of joy that equivocate.
It’s nice to have someone actually care if you’re around or not; to tell the teacher why you’re absent, and not be a mystery to everyone. I’ll admit, this real life friendship thing is a bit weirder to me than it should bem, but that’s not to say I don’t like it. I do. In fact i’m glad for the change of pace. I do hope though that it works out in the end, and hopefully this is a good change of events.
